About DeTA

Developer TanahAir — a community rooted in place, open to the world.

DeTA (Developer TanahAir) is a tech community connected to IIUM and welcoming to outsiders. It gathers people across web, mobile, AI, cybersecurity, networking, game development, creative tech, and more — a room where you can learn, build, connect, and grow from curiosity into real-world impact.

What DeTA is

A mesh, not a monoculture.

DeTA is where disciplines meet without collapsing into one “stack.” You might be tuning a model, hardening an API, storyboarding a scene, or soldering a board — the through-line is care for the work and for the people beside you.

The community is tied to International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) — labs, mentors, and rhythms students can rely on — but the door stays open. Builders from other campuses, cities, and backgrounds show up when they want a serious table and a humane pace.

DeTA is not a fan club for tools or trends. It is a place to learn with intent, ship with evidence, and grow with peers who will remember your project’s name next month, not just tonight.

Who it is for

If you build, ask, or care — there is a place here.

DeTA is intentionally broad. These are not boxes to fit — they are invitations. You might see yourself in more than one line.

  • 01

Beginners who prefer building over bragging.

First commits, first circuits, first prompts — DeTA meets you where you are, with mentors who remember being stuck.

  • 02

    Students bridging campus and industry.

Coursework matters, but so does shipping — labs, nights, and peer review that read on a résumé and in real repos.

  • 03

Builders who want a bench, not an audience.

Firmware, ML, games, civic tools — if you are making something you can point to, there is room beside you.

  • 04

Partners and collaborators with shared standards.

Studios, labs, and trusts that bring briefs, constraints, and field reality — the work gets sharper when the table is wider.

  • 05

Curious explorers chasing the next good question.

Reading groups, salons, and odd experiments welcome — curiosity is fuel when it is paired with care.

What happens inside

The week has texture — not just a calendar.

DeTA is a living rhythm: people teaching, arguing kindly, and shipping in public. Here is what that usually feels like.

Learning

Workshops, walkthroughs, and honest Q&A — skills you can rehearse the same week, not someday in theory.

Sharing

Notes, failures, and small wins circulated openly so the next person spends less time rediscovering the same dead end.

Building

Build nights, sprints, and long-arc projects with artifacts: repos, prototypes, and demos you can link to.

Networking

Introductions with context — who needs what, who can teach what — without turning every meetup into a pitch deck.

Real-world exposure

Field visits, partner briefs, and showcases that touch classrooms, communities, and the occasional messy deployment.

How we steer

Principles, not posters on a wall.

These are not marketing values — they are how arguments get resolved and how newcomers know what kind of room this is.

  1. Rigor with kindness

We argue about architecture and ethics with the same energy — and we assume good intent until proven otherwise.

  2. Show the work

Slides are fine; artifacts are better. The default posture is “here is what we tried,” not “trust the vision.”

  3. Many disciplines, one table

Web, mobile, AI, security, networking, games, creative tech — different languages, shared respect for craft.

  4. Open boundaries

Rooted at IIUM, open beyond it — if you care about building here, you have a seat at the signal.

Curious is enough to start.

Say hello, ask a question, or show up to the next open signal — DeTA grows when people bring their real projects and their real questions.
